Does ketchup mixed with mayonnaise really make thousand island?

We were out of salad dressing and my mom suggested I mix ketchup with mayonnaise to make thousand island, but I'm somewhat skeptical about it. Scratch that, I am EXTREMELY skeptical. Is it true though?
